  • Join the Earth Hour Tonight!

Tonight, join the lights off campaign for the Earth Hour. It will only be an hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 in the evening. This is your own way of showing respect and concern on our environment. In fact, you will be favoring two things by simply switching off your electricity on that hour of March 28. One is conserving energy and the other one is showing your support to the environment campaigns. This is just the third year of this event but a thousand cities are expected to turn their lights out in support.

The Earth Hour started as a one city environmental movement initiative in Sydney, Australia. The courage of the city people took the heart of the many in different countries in the world, making it among the good causes everyone should participate in. In 2008, 371 cities in 35 countries participated in this movement. It became a monumental event that everyone wants to be part of it. And 2009 will surely make a real difference! Not only the numbers will make a great change in this event but the real effect of this energy conservation and call for environment concern. In fact, this event can be used to reunite a community, a country, a continent, and the world.

This event did not only charm the faithful and the environmentalists or minimalists but also those who love to make good business out of it. I have seen a booth in a local mall that sells t-shirts, hats, and bags printed with this image:

I bought one and I think you should, too. I don’t think they are making use of the event or if they are, they are using it in good cause also. The more they advertise it, the more it can raise curiosity. Where there is curiosity, there will always be awareness.
